Danmarks Miljøportal, 28 January 2026

In 2020, Danmarks Miljøportal launched the joint public digital platform VanDa for registering data on surface water. Last year, the Danish Agency for Green Area Conversion and Water Environment (SGAV), in collaboration with Danmarks Miljøportal (DMP), launched a project so that groundwater monitoring (GRUMO) could also use the existing platform to automate and digitize workflows.

The IT project started in March 2025, and by the end of 2025, VanDa Groundwater became a reality. Today, the common public IT platform is used for all groundwater sampling under NOVANA.

One common platform across the board

The implementation of VanDa Groundwater has resulted in a number of benefits for groundwater monitoring in NOVANA. Some fragmented partially analogue/digital solutions have been replaced with a fully digital solution. Ordering analyses from the laboratories is now connected to the latest StanLab, which has improved and simplified the workflows.

At the same time, the solution means that chemical sampling across NOVANA's sub-programmes now takes place in the same IT platform. For samplers in SGAV, this provides a single user interface, and in the future, GRUMO will be able to benefit from new features and solutions developed in VanDa. In parallel with the development of VanDa Groundwater, SGAV has also converted their quality assurance tool into a modern IT solution. Groundwater data collected via VanDa Groundwater is transferred to Jupiter, which is the authoritative database for groundwater data in Denmark.

Perspectives and collaboration

The project manager for the Jupiter Reformation has been continuously informed about the work, and there is potential for solutions from VanDa Groundwater to be reused or serve as inspiration in the further work on the Jupiter Reformation.

Danmarks Miljøportal and the Danish Agency for Green Area Conversion and Aquatic Environment would like to thank all project participants from DMP, GEUS and SGAV for a good and constructive collaboration.
