The project deals with the development of a system for real-time calculation of water flow for better warning of floods.
Danmarks Miljøportal has previously developed a system for real-time calculation of water flow called Immediate Water Flow for the Danish Agency for Green Area Conversion and Aquatic Environment (SGAV) and the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI).
The system will support DMI's work to ensure better warning of floods. In this connection, SGAV has promised DMI, based on continuous measurements in watercourses (New data topic in DMP VanDaHydro from December 2023), to be able to provide real-time calculation of water flow at SGAV's measuring stations in watercourses under the Novana sub-programme for Substance Transport. The work with the Real-Time Water Flows forms the basis for DMI's national warning of flooding from streams and lakes.
The real-time calculations have been a development project between DMP and SGAV since January 2024. The project is financed with DKK 1.9 million. In 2024 and is expected to be continued in 2025 with new activities.
